Break is officially over. I didn’t write nearly as much as I wanted to, but I did get to spend a lot of time with my family, so the trade off was worth it. I spent the majority of the break feeling puny, and today I feel even worse. I hate to say this, but there may be a doctor’s visit in my near future.

Even though I was feeling sickly, we still did a lot of fun things.

After all the family fun during the week, Sunday came and I was still feeling gross. Nathan and I decided to start decorating for Christmas, and one thing that I learned is that when he is so excited about a holiday, it is really hard for me to be grumpy about it. We went to Lowes and bought LOTS of Christmas lights and I am really excited to show you the fruit of our labors. First is the baby Christmas tree that is at this moment only carrying two ornaments. The second is an idea that I stole from watching the Barefoot Contessa. During her holiday episode, I noticed that she had lights and garland on her countertop in her kitchen. It’s the first time that I have seen Christmas decorations and wanted them in my house.

To get this look, all you have to do is go to Lowes. They will give you the branches that they have to cut off of the live trees that they sell. First, put lights along the back wall. Then, take the branches and cut them down a bit and spread them along the very back of the countertop. Pull the lights through in some areas and there you have it. Beautiful, natural decorations that smell delicious. Hello Holiday Spirit!
