Even though my week was stupid long and filled with not as much fun as I would like, I did continue to carve out time before bed to read. I’m still not sure if I’m going to be able to meet my GoodReads Goal of 52 books, but I’m going to keep fighting.
Last week I was focused on finishing A Working Theory of Love by Scott Hutchins. This was interesting. I don’t know if I would pick it up again. One of those hard lessons for me to learn (one I learned from The Happiness Project) was that you shouldn’t finish books you don’t enjoy. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy it. I found it intriguing. I liked that the main character, although the novel was set mostly in San Francisco, was from Arkansas. I didn’t like the sex cult aspect. It didn’t come into play enough for me to put the book down, but it just seemed like an odd choice of catalyst. Maybe I’m just prudish. Oh well. I would give it 3.5 stars, I think. Maybe closer to 3 if I’m being especially honest.
I’m also still working my way through Eleanor and Park. I wish I had read and finished this one over the summer. I think at this point I’m too close to teenage love and I mostly find it annoying. I really liked it at the beginning, but I think I’m jaded. Or maybe I’m just taking too long reading it so I’m not feeling it in the way that I normally would.
This is one of my To Read shelves. It’s a new addition to my office to remind me of all the novels, even some classics, that I haven’t finished yet. I know, I know, for shame and I thought you were an English major and all that, but it is what it is. I’m working on it. This week my goal is to read two new books that I’ve been waiting to read. The first is a middle grade book about a possum. I just can’t tell you how cute this cover is!
Isn’t Appleblossom just precious? I’m so excited to read something light and fun after the heaviness of this week.
The second book that I’m going to read this week, finally, is The Witch of Bourbon Street by Suzanne Palmieri. I. AM. SO. EXCITED. I’ve been putting it off because I love Palmieri so much that I kind of want to be her when I grow up and I really wanted to focus on enjoying this novel.
What are you guys reading this week? Any novels that I need to add to my GROWING To Read pile?
