Music sometimes grabs me and won’t let me go. It captures a moment in time, a place, a feeling, a connection and every time after, I feel those same feelings when I hear that particular song. Recently, as I’ve been writing and reflecting and trying to figure this whole life thing out, I’ve realized what a powerful impact music can have on me.
Some people are captured by a beat, but I’m captured by the lyrics (even though when singing them I almost always get them wrong). Sometimes there is just a phrase that I can’t get out of my heart and the songs that follow are the songs that have most recently done that for me. I just can’t get them out of my mind. I hope you enjoy!
For all the things my hands have held
The best by far is you
Andrew McMahon, “Cecilia and the Satellite”
I thought “If I could tell her something I would tell her this
There’s only two mistakes that I have made
It’s running from the people who could love me best
And trying to fix a world that I can’t change.”
Andrew McMahon, “All Our Lives”
It’s never been about the gold paved roads.
It’s in the glory of the stories told.
Deliver me between the mind and soul
and I don’t know where to go but the light takes me home.
Eric Hutchison, “Shine on Me”
Can I take it to a morning
Where the fields are painted gold
And the trees are filled with memories
Of the feelings never told?
When the evening pulls the sun down,
And the day is almost through,
Oh, the whole world it is sleeping,
But my world is you.
The Paper Kites, “Bloom”
